Information also available in German.

We offer several communication services to you, to ease social interaction and studying.

Login / Authentication

Students of Computer Science can login with their normal stu-account.

Students of Mathematics can unfortunately not logon to our services for now. We hope to change this soon.

Riot/Matrix

This service was shut down 2021-03-21. This was due to apparent very low usage.

https://riot.fs-infmath.uni-kiel.de

Element (former Riot) is a modern chat program. Matrix the name of the corresponding protocol.

Features:

  • Public chat rooms
  • Private chat rooms
  • Optional end-to-end encryption of chat rooms
  • (Video) Calls between two people (via WebRTC)
  • Video conferences via Jitsi

Chat rooms may for example be set up for small groups collaborating in a course or large ones like all the attendees to a certain course.

Usage

CodiMD

https://codimd.fs-infmath.uni-kiel.de

CodiMD is a collaborative Markdown-editor.

Features:

  • Simultaneous editing of the same document (e.g., homework) by several people.
  • Markdown, a very simple markup language, close to plain text.
  • Real-Time rendering of the HTML corresponding to the typed Markdown.
  • Syntax highlighting for several programming languages.
  • LaTeX-Rendering.
  • VIM and Emacs modes.
  • Many more, see CodiMD/Features.

Jitsi

This service was shut down 2021-03-21. This was due to apparent very low usage.

https://jitsi.fs-infmath.uni-kiel.de

Jitsi is a videoconference server.

Features:

  • Videotelephony in small groups. Larger groups do unfortunately seem to cause problems.

May for example be useful to coordinate or collaborate in small work groups.

Nutzung

  • Preferably via Chrom{e,ium} (with hardware acceleration), alternatively Firefox.

Mumble

Mumble is deprecated might be shut down in the near future. If you are still using Mumble, please e-mail us at technik@fs-infmath.uni-kiel.de.

mumble://mumble.fs-infmath.uni-kiel.de

Mumble is a voice chat program.

Features:

  • Permanent and temporary channels (like Riot/Matrix, but independently).
  • Should handle larger groups well.
  • Ressource-efficient.

Useful, whenever vocal communication suffices. E.g., in combination with CodiMD.

Nutzung

  • A client program needs to be installed. Available for all major operating systems (incl. mobile).

Further options

A few suggestions on further technical options for collaboration:

  • VIM / Emacs in a shared Screen / Tmux - session.
    • E.g., on one of the Servers of the Department of Computer Science reachable via SSH.
  • Drawpile -- collaborative drawing
  • Further options on libreplanet.org.
