Element (former Riot) is a modern chat program. Matrix the name of the corresponding protocol.

Features:

Public chat rooms
Private chat rooms
Optional end-to-end encryption of chat rooms
(Video) Calls between two people (via WebRTC)
Video conferences via Jitsi

Chat rooms may for example be set up for small groups collaborating in a course or large ones like all the attendees to a certain course.

Usage

Web frontend
- Recommended: Firefox or Chrom{e,ium}
Desktop client, Apps for Android (F-Droid, Google Play) and iOS (App Store)
- As homeserver, set <matrix.fs-infmath.uni-kiel.de> (not <riot.fs-infmath.uni-kiel.de>).
